Being Productive During Spring Break Job Shadows
Being Productive During Spring Break Job Shadows As some Illini hit the beaches down south or binge-watch Netflix shows they missed while studying for midterms, I decided to do something different with my break. In January, I saw that the College of Media was offering a spring break job shadow program. Currently a sophomore Advertising major, I thought it would be a great way to get ahead on my future job search and see what kind of companies I would want to work for as an intern and post-graduation. All I had to do was go to an informational meeting one afternoon in January. Then in February I went onto I-Link, a job board just for Illinois students, and I started to apply for the shadows. Whats cool about the job shadow program is that Illinois grads are willing to host students for an afternoon or even a full day at the companies they work at. It made me want to do the same once I have a career in the advertising field, because it would remind me of where I came from. I ended up getting job shadows at Starcom Mediavest Group, Groupon, and Scranton Gillette Communications. Starcom is a media agency that helps brands decide where to put their ads, whether its Facebook or ESPN. Located in downtown Chicago, it was such a cool office space, and there were lots of young people working there. This would make for a fun time, meeting lots of cool, fun co-workers who share the same passions as you. Groupon was my favorite job shadow. Groupons headquarters are also in Chicago. The office was huge, and tons of Illinois grads worked there who were willing to give advice to Illinois students like myself. They spoke highly of their time at Illinois and said they wouldnt be where they are now without it. Finally, for my third and final job shadow, I went to a Chicago-area communications agency called Scranton Gillette Communications. They help publish trade magazines for home builders, among other countless industries. The Illinois grads there loved their jobs and explained what business to business agency is like. Job shadows are great because if you do like a company you shadow at, youll now have a contact in the company, making it easier to get a job there. These job shadows gave me a better sense of what I want to do post-graduation and taught me how far an advertising degree from Illinois can take me. Daniel Class of 2018 Iâm an Advertising major in the College of Media. Iâm from a northwest suburb of Chicago called Buffalo Grove. I chose Illinois because it was the first university in the entire world to offer an Advertising major, which is pretty cool!

One such marked look is by edifices monumental edifices which have ever grown vertically to mean their importance. Every progress in tallness comes with a new set of jobs. Everytime a new engineering or thought is required to traverse the hurdle and each clip it happens that a new harvest of such constructions utilizing such engineering are raised wherever economic system licenses. Earlier the tall and monumental edifices were meant for the intent of idolizing ( temple and cathedrals ) , garnering ( public halls ) and other intents ( like pyramids for entombment ) . So the considerations were that of structural stableness. But today, they are even used for commercial every bit good as residential intents, so the challenges like the residents comfort have added to the list. ââ¬ËAs Grecian temples and Gothic cathedrals are the representative edifice types of their several periods, tall edifices and skyscrapers are seen as the best representative illustrations of industrialised society. They have compounded the human inherent aptitude to construct of all time higher, self-importance and competition, and the economic demands of get bying with the denseness of urbanization.ââ¬â¢ ( ILGIN, 2006 ) . In todayââ¬â¢s clip, it is merely impossible to conceive of any major metropolis without tall edifices determining its skyline. They are most celebrated landmarks of metropoliss ( besides because they can be located from far off ) , laterality of human inventiveness over natural universe, assurance in engineering and a grade of national pride ; and besides these, the importance of tall edifices in the modern-day universe is without uncertainty of all time increasing despite their several undeniable negative effects on the quality of urban life. The feasibleness and desirableness of tall edifices have ever depended on the available stuffs, the degree of building engineering, and the province of development of the services necessary for the usage of the edifice. Therefore, advances in structural design constructs, analytical techniques, and a more sophisticated building industry, in concurrence with the high-strength lightweight stuffs have made it possible to build really tall, much more slender and lightweight edifices at a surprisingly low cost premium compared to conventional building. ( ILGIN, 2006 ) However, every progress in tallness comes with a new trouble and therefore the race toward new highs has its ain challenges. Intelligibly, the increased flexibleness and decreased weight make non supply sufficient anchorage and makes modern-day tall edifices much more vulnerable to environmental excitements such as air current, which leads to horizontal quiver. Since air current can make inordinate edifice gesture, the dynamic nature of air current is a critical issue, negatively impacting tenancy comfort and serviceableness. Excessive edifice gesture can, make noise and cleft dividers, damage non-structural elements such as drape walls, cause spectacless to interrupt, cut down fatigue life, malfunction of the lifts and equipment, and consequence in structural amendss or even prostration. Therefore, the utmost quiver is a greater concern for both users every bit good as interior decorators of modern tall edifices, and inordinate acceleration experienced at the top floors during frequent windstorms should be kept within acceptable bounds to minimise uncomfortableness for the edifice residents and to avoid these sorts of unwanted events. Many researches and surveies have been done in order to extenuate such an excitement and better the public presentation of tall edifices against air current tonss. Hence, different design methods and alterations are possible, runing from alternate structural systems to the add-on of muffling systems in order to guarantee the functional public presentation of flexible constructions and command the air current induced gesture of tall edifices. An highly of import and effectual design attack among these methods is aerodynamic alterations in architecture. It comes into drama when the structural portion of the edifice can no longer defy sidelong air current forces without any major structural alterations and design and at the same clip without significantly increasing the cost of the undertaking. Aerodynamic alterations include alterations of buildingââ¬â¢s cross-sectional form and its corner geometry, sculptured edifice tops, horizontal and perpendicular gaps through-building to let air current to flux past the edifices with effects on the edifice construction and tegument. In this survey we will look on some of tall edifices and how their design was modified by aerodynamic surveies. By altering the flow form around the edifice, i.e. an appropriate pick of edifice signifier, moderates wind responses when compared to original edifice form. Equally far as air current burden and resulting gestures are concerned, for tall and slender edifices, the form is critical and a regulating factor in the architectural design. Intelligibly, tall edifice design requires a alone coaction peculiarly between the designer and the applied scientist. This interdisciplinary attack to deciding edifice planning, building, and usage issues plays a critical function. Furthermore, wind safe tall edifice design begins with the designer, and so, the influence of the air current action must be considered from the really beginning of the architectural design procedure of tall edifices. Designs created by the designer should be such that it allows for the aerodynamic alterations to take topographic point without compromising other facets of design particularly its country. Therefore, skyscrapers of the following coevals should be the merchandises of coaction, in peculiar between the architectural, structural and aerospace technology Fieldss without victimising the architectural design. But first we will understand the nature of air current and its importance at higher degrees from the land and besides some basic rules of fluid kineticss ( as air current is a fluid ) . Why is Act I Scene V of Romeo and Juliet an effective piece of drama How is this an important scene in the drama as a whole Essay Example For Students
Why is Act I Scene V of Romeo and Juliet an effective piece of drama? How is this an important scene in the drama as a whole? Essay Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time in Act I Scene V, at the Capulet Mansion. In the beginning of the play, Act I Scene I- Act I Scene IV, Romeo is infatuated with Rosaline. His language is brutal and often militaristic. During speech to Benvolio during Act I Scene I, Romeo states that: She will not stay the siege of loving terms. This martial language, and use of military terms, enforces the idea that love, like war, is a destructive, painful and chaotic. The language used also emphasises the fact that the two families of Romeo (Montague) and Rosaline (Capulet) are at war. The language could also link to events at the time; Romeo and Juliet was written in 1594/1595, The Nine Years War between the English military and Gaelic Irish chieftains began in 1594. We will write a custom essay on Why is Act I Scene V of Romeo and Juliet an effective piece of drama? How is this an important scene in the drama as a whole? specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The Prologue tells the audience beforehand that Romeo and Juliet will fail to find happiness, Tybalts first appearance emphasises this. In Act I Scene I Line 69, Tybalt speaks for the first time: Have at thee, Coward. This establishes Tybalt as one who likes a fight. This aggressive streak of Tybalts, Juliets cousin, is another, quite impetuous, obstacle in the way of Romeo and Juliets happiness; with Tybalt fighting Montagues left, right and centre, how long will it be before he attempts duels his own kinsman. When Mercutio, in Act II, Scene IV Line 29, describes Tybalt as: The pox of such antic, lisping, affecting fantasticoes Mercutio is mistaken, for Tybalt is a dangerous man. Tybalts third and final appearance, in Act III Scene I, shows him in a typically confrontational mood. He has sent a challenge to Romeo and is all too happy to take on Mercutio before Romeo arrives. He is really spoiling for a fight: Romeo, the hate I bear thee can afford no better term than this. He brushes aside Romeos offers of truce, continuing his quest for violence until Mercutio draws. Tybalt takes to his heels when Mercutio falls, but is all too happy to return to send Romeo to join his friend. He returns, unconcerned by Mercutios death to challenge Romeo: Thou, wretched boy, that didst consort him here, shalt with him hence. Tybalt represents the ugliness that lies just below a divided society. It is interesting to contrast of his death with that of Romeo and Juliet. His death ensures more deaths will follow; the lovers deaths that the killing comes to end. If Verona is a divided society, Tybalt is the one man who wishes for it to remain so. The action of the story covers a period of five days: The opening street fight occurs on a Sunday morning and by early Thursday morning the lovers have died and the feuding families are united. The plot revolves entirely around the lovers. We see them before they meet each other. We witness their first meeting. We follow them through their declarations of love and up to the crucial moment when Romeo slays Tybalt and all is lost. We sense them fighting against time as the wedding between Juliet and Paris is brought forward and Friar Lawrence hatches a desperate scheme to save them. Inevitably events move so quickly, mistakes are made. The vital message fails to reach Romeo before Balthazar, Juliet rouses from her unconscious state to find that she is fractionally too late to save Romeo or herself. The combination of time and action adds to the power of the story, the lovers are impelled unstoppably through a sequence of events, this adds to the feeling that they are caught in a train of circumstances, completely beyond their control. It is the pace and urgency that makes the drama so compelling; the plot is a complicated one because we have to take so many factors into consideration to understand the complexities of the web in which Romeo and Juliet are entrapped. The absence of sub-plots ensures that throughout the two hours traffic our attention is firmly fixed on the fates of the young lovers. The plays enduring popularity stems from the fact that its subject matter is love and, for good measure, we are given at least four variations on this major theme. Our first meeting with Romeo shows us a stylized conventional view of love, sometimes called courtly love. This is what grips Romeo in the opening scenes of the play: his postures and sighs; he understands that Rosaline will not be hit with Cupids arrow. yet neither is he able to forget her nor, despite the teasing of his friends, Benvolio and Mercutio, is he prepared to try and do so. It is appropriate that his feelings, however ill-directed, should be so strong. He is adamant that no-one but Rosaline will suit him, and it supplies a natural motive to attend the Capulets masked ball. On the way to the ball, Act I Scene IV, we are reminded of the power of his love for Rosaline, and the misery it brings with it. He is confused by its illogical effect on him: Is love a tender thing? It is too rough, too rude to boisterous, a nd it pricks like thorn. Moreover, he still has to endure Mercutios gibes before he reaches his evening destination. .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 , .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .postImageUrl , .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 , .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78:hover , .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78:visited , .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78:active { border:0!important; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78:active , .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78 .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud713fdd71ee6e7992c681c81fdd00b78:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Wizard of Oz Spoof EssayYet, once at the ball, Romeos first words: What lady is that, which doth enrich the hand of yonder knight? reveal the immediate impact that seeing Juliet has upon him. The effect Juliet has upon him is even more astounding given his previous strength of feeling for Rosaline. However to call the latter emotion love is misleading, infatuation is surely a more apt description. Another approach to love is presented in the opening scene, and throughout they play references are made to it. This might be called sexual love. We first encounter it in the course humour of the servants in Act I Scene I. it crops up again in our first meeting with the nurse, wh en she jokes that: women grow by men and moments later is encouraging Juliet to view Paris sympathetically and seek happy nights to happy days. Mercutios conversations frequently employ lewd references that indicate a broad view of the relations between the sexes, though it has to be said that the use of puns adds a little delicacy to the humour. A third expression can be seen in Paris with his relationship, such as it is, with Juliet. This is characterized by the dutifulness of affection that attends an arranged marriage. It is interesting to note the Capulets differing views of Paris. Initially, Capulet is keen to protect his daughter and assures Paris that Juliets decision is to be final in the matter. Lady Capulet, by contrast, is intent on the marriage right from the start: we can be quite sure that she herself was married young and quickly pregnant: I was your mother much upon these years (Juliet, as near as we can guess, was around 14). The nurse also approves of arranged marriages. What is more, in the moment of Juliets deepest despair, the nurse counsels the expedient solution of arranged marriage with Paris as a way out of the dilemma. Although you might naturally resent the threat to Romeo and Juliets happiness which is represented by Paris, you end up quite admiring the man for his constancy. He eventually perishe s in the graveyard, fighting mistakenly to protect the dead Juliet from some sort of vengeful attack by Romeo. His love is rewarded by earning him a place beside Juliet. The popularity of the play does not reside in the different definitions of love, but in its triumphant description of one definition of love. The true love of Romeo and Juliet shines out against all the other types of love. In the opening prologue they are described as star-crossd lovers and, on one level, this suggests that their love is fated. On another level, the choice of star-crossd is appropriate to capture the luminous quality of their love, a metaphor for the stars (lovers) illuminating the dark night sky (the divided society and the warring families). Romeos first reaction to Juliet is that she doth teach the torches to burn bright. When he catches sight of her in the orchard, she is the light through yonder window. Juliet shares this view of their love. Initially, she is suspicious of the suddenness of the feeling, fearing it is like lightning which doth cease to be ere one can say It lightens.' Yet, by the wedding night, she is making a comparison to the luminescent qual ity of Romeos love: when I shall die Take him and cut him out in little stars And he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with the night The tragic end of their love is a direct consequence of the other main theme in the play: a society at war with itself that makes their love, at once, so tragic and so beautiful. It is love against the odds. Romeo, we know from the start of the play, had no business even to meet Juliet, a Capulet, let alone fall in love with her. The masked ball is designed to cement an entirely different kind of love affair, yet it comes into an interloper, whose magical encounter with a beautiful young woman totally rewrites the script. We are aware of all the dangers: the opening brawl, the bitterness of Tybalt, the perils of a Montague being discovered in the Capulet orchard, the street fighting. But against this background, a beautiful love forms, blossoms and achieves immortality. It is the innocence and truth of this illicit love that has given the story its popularity across time. Each generation redefines its Shakespeare. Each generation suffers its own conflicts but, despite them, love, the finest expression of the human spirit, survives and thrives. Love is used as the central theme in four of Shakespeares tragedies: Romeo and Juliet, Troilus and Cressida, Othello and Antony and Cleopatra. It is tempting to see them in this order as describing love at four different ages, from the passion of the youngest lovers, to the final search for love by Antony and Cleopatra, lovers who are torn between two worlds. Romeo and Juliet are, however, powerless in a world not of their making and one which they are unable to influence, until they die. .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc , .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .postImageUrl , .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc , .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc:hover , .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc:visited , .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc:active { border:0!important; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc:active , .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8b48bca98c00d0b9c8650586db8cd6cc:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Century Drama Assignment EssayRomeo and Juliet die as a direct consequence of the hatreds and the system of the society in which the find themselves. Their deaths make a permanent symbol of the power of love, which triumphs through all adversity, one that is destined to forever to symbolize the waste in all divided societies. At the beginning of the play, Romeo is conspicuously absent. We discover that he is suffering from lovesickness, the object of his unrequited devotions being Rosaline. He is adamant that there is no other woman for him, yet he is equally certain that Rosaline is not to be won by him. This accounts for the confusion that we see in his first conversation with Benvolio. His speech is characterized by oxymoron and contradictions as he struggles to make sense of his predicament. His depression persists even when he is making his way to the ball to see Rosaline, and he is a soft target for Mercutios wit though he feels that his low spirits proceed in some measure from a feeling that something dreadful will Bitterly begin his fearful date at the ball, something dreadful will end with his untimely death. His confusion and self doubt are immediately banished when he first sees Juliet and notices how she appears in the dance like a snowy white dove trooping with crows There is some irony in that this should be his reaction, since he denied to Benvolio that he could possibly forget Rosaline in such a way. Within seconds, he takes Juliets hand and their first few moments are celebrated with a sonnet. Juliets youth is the key factor in forming her character. She is innocent and young, not quite fourteen years old. Her father is keen to protect her since she is his only surviving child. When her mother broaches the question of marriage, Juliet avoids a direct answer: It is an honour that I dream not of. She consents to considering Paris but promises to make no commitment without her mothers approval. When she meets Romeo, She is no longer passive. At first she allows Romeo to kiss her but she encourages him to kiss her again and compliments him into the bargain: You kiss by the book. By the end of the scene as she endeavours to discover the identity of the stranger, we note the charming indirectness of the manner as she includes Romeo as one of the three men whose name she wants. Her next response to the nurse shows how she is beginning to hide her feelings as she describes her dismay at realising Romeos family connections as a rhyme I learnt. There is a grim truth in Juliets view that her grave is like to be wedding bed. Juliets indirectness in telling the nurse which man interests her also displays her youth and shyness.

Conflict Resolution in Work Teams Abstract As growing companies gear their employees toward a team working environment, the need for conflict resolution increases. Team conflict arises from different values, attitudes and opinions each team member brings to a particular group. With extensive research into resolution techniques and tactical management philosophies, results show that when properly managed, conflict can result in great benefits for the ultimate success of a working team. Conflict resolution in work teams A major advantage a team has over an individual is its diversity of resources, knowledge, and ideas. However, diversity also produces conflict. As more and more organizations restructure to work teams the need for training in conflict resolution will continue to grow. Varney (1989) reports ââ¬Å"Conflict remained the number-one problem for most of the teams operating within a large energy company, even after repeated training sessions on how to resolve conflict and how to minimize the negative impact on team membersâ⬠. One reason for this may be that mangers and leaders within these organizations are not giving the issue of resolving conflict enough attention. Varney's research showed that although most managers are aware of disagreements and have received training in conflict resolution, they seldom assign a high priority to solving conflict problems. Free sample - The major healthcare problem in the USA. translation missing
The major healthcare problem in the USA. The major healthcare problem in the USAOver the years, there has been an increase in the number of uninsured people in the US. Most of these people are those that are aged. Two to three centuries back, most of the people that were dying were the young people which meant that there were very few aging people to worry about. However, due to medical, surgical and other advances made in the field of medicine and related fields, the numbers of aging people in the carry has increased tremendously. If many people are uninsured and they live longer, the burden of the services that will be required for these aged people will be very great on the government. The government currently spends a lot of funds in providing these services to the old people.Ã Due to this, there is a need to develop proper ways to insure most people and take care of the welfare of the old and aging people in the society. I believe the following three ways can be very useful in achieving this. 1.Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Aging prevention The government should invest more on projects that are meant to reduce or completely prevent the aging process. This will make it possible for more people to continue working despite their age and hence an increase in the number of people insured. 2.Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Disease prevention and self-care The government should develop proper methods to ensure that the citizens are well informed about how to prevent the normal and avoidable diseases. The government should also sensitize people on the importance of self-care. These two will ensure that most people fall ill less often hence reduction in the cost of health services needed. 3.Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Improve services for aging people The government should also make sure that the healthcare centers have the required facilities and expertise to handle the aging people and the common problems and diseases related to aging. Conclusion If the above solutions are followed and properly implemented, then they will help in the reduction of this big problem in the healthcare sector of the country.

Alison Bechdel Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Alison Bechdel - Essay Example The areas of focus are Alison Bechdel, her psychoanalysis ideals, fiction, comic, tale and abstraction. Introduction There remains a common perception among people that fiction has nothing to do about lifeââ¬â¢s reality. It has nothing to do about the truth, originality which lies with a personââ¬â¢s life (Bechdel). The comic of Alison Bechdel ââ¬Å"are you my mother?â⬠depicts another story. It tells that fiction do have some connection with a manââ¬â¢s life (Bechdel 1-5). The way the fiction gets formed does hold some colors of life of the person describing it in the fictional sense (Bechdel). Alison Bechdel who has come out as one of the popular comic writers in the cartoon comic industry is a woman of fiction bringing certain connections of her inner self and her life experiences in her abstraction. Bechdelââ¬â¢s writing is a demonstration which tells that fiction is a manifestation of lifeââ¬â¢s reality. It is the reflection of truth and situations which a p erson faces in his or her life periods (Bechdel 1-5). This report is going to assess the comic tale of Alison Bechdel, with an aim to find out that how fiction relates to reality (Martin). Themes here to analyze are psychoanalysis, psychodrama, fiction, comic tale and art respectively. Based on the derived thesis statement ââ¬Å"fiction is an added color to lifeâ⬠and analyzing ââ¬Å"Are you my Mother?â⬠the report will draw certain findings, results and conclusion (Kothari). Method Adapted In cotemporary research studies, there are different methods being adapted to conduct the research. In the field of psychology, art and social sciences several authors have adapted the method of secondary research (Kothari). Secondary research is a research based on secondary sources (books, journals, news articles and periodicals), providing an explorative ground to the researcher to make the research apprehensive. In viewing the contemporary literature in arts and literature, the re searcher has adapted thematic secondary research method to analyze the Alison Bechdelââ¬â¢s art comic fiction effectively (Bechdel). This method adapted has made the researcher to explore several secondary sources, providing a closer and critical view on ââ¬Å"Are you my Mother?â⬠This method adapted will possibly lead to conclusive findings describing the comic drama in a more comprehensive way (Kothari 95). Results and Discussion The comic drama ââ¬Å"Are you my Mother?â⬠of Alison Bechdel opens up with the first chapter of the book in which Bechdel emphasizes on her inner eloquence that she had kept secret throughout her lifeââ¬â¢s journey (Garner 3-5). This was a book which Bechdel kept on emphasizing- an inner expression that had endured Bechdel from inside and throughout her life period (Luban 1-2). In the opening chapter when Bechdel was in conversation with her analyst, she expressed that her mother has been a looming psychic presence in her mind (Bechdel). She wanted to bring her out by writing a book which describes the story of her mother and the relationship with her as a growing daughter. Bechdelââ¬â¢s mother was like an ordinary mother as the comic drama explains but the relationship she kept with Bechdel was majorly different from her other children (Luban 2-3). The drama explains that when Bechdel was seven years old, her mother stopped kissing her to the good night bed. It was something disappointing for the child and definitely something which made Bechdel disturbed from inside. As ââ¬Å"Are you my Mothe

Business ethics - Essay Example The latter was a conspiracy to fix price but against which Virgin Atlantic blew an early whistle to stop prematurely. As one will notice, airline industry is full of stiff competition that takes all forms of unethical practices despite heavy fines that perpetrators are usually aware of (Fisman et al., 2005, p. 56). Ethical theories have majorly made general observations that the foundation of ethics is motivate by human desire to do good. It is a desire to good in the sense that the wish and the necessary action to accompany the wish are not usually mutually inclusive. Ethics therefore comes out as a concern on the way in which people apply moral principles to life. In other words, ethics is concerned with what s just, fair or acceptable by applying the fundamental that guide societal values. Business ethics is therefore guidelines that come out of concerns on how best a firm should relate with the society in a manner likely to promote the principles of justice and responsibility. Justice and responsibility come in the sense that business as a legal entity in its name or in the shareholders name, has a duty to make sure that its pursuit for profits is not motivated greed (Bob, 2006, p. 23). Business ethics therefore act to ensure that elements in business external environment are used in a manner likely to sustain their continued existence without any harm. Such a duty involves having to care for the environment and the community in which the business interacts with in the course of its daily activities. One should also note that business ethics also guide how a business firm will operate internally. In short, ethics in business is about applying all the values, principles, and regulations with the aim of being responsible to the welfare of the public (Hsieh, 2009, p.259). Business ethics is important majorly because it offers guidelines on how best

That is the key to fulfill ultimate duty to provide consistently attractive returns to the holder of the business. TARGET MARKET Cokes commercials mainly focused on young generations, for the reason that they want to represent Coke with the youth energy further they think about the matured people they take then as a co-target market. MAJOR SEGMENTS Major segments are mainly those who take Coke daily those areas where the demand is higher then the other areas. A lot of people who take Coke daily those who take weekly those who take rarely are always there as well. So, the Pakistan Coca Cola companys basic segments are those who have this drink often. FACTORS EFFECTING SALES There are lots of factors that affect the sale of Coca Cola. Three major factors are being discussed that effect coke. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Per capita income à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Competitors à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Weather Per Capita Income ThaÃÆ'à ¯ss the major factor that influences the sale of this carbonated soft drink. For the reason that each every passing year budgets are becoming more strict tight in order to purchase things. Consequently the disposable revenues of the people are getting lower. They pay out heavily on rents, utilities, education basic necessities thereafter when they erne extra money they think about this carbonated soft drink .thus the get down of per capita income does effect badly in selling production of this carbonated soft drink. to go through with this difficulty there is need to increase the level of per capita Income of Pakistan therefore it is lesser than the other the countries. Competitors Coca Colas main competitor is PEPSI % there is no suspect to say this because every body knows that all the other cold drinks and water, tea, coffee, are the players. Weather This is immature market so the Coca Colas usage in winters is 40% in summers is 60%. MAJOR CUSTOMERS NEED Most of the consumers dont care about what they are going to take. They dont care before drinking that whether it is Coca Cola or Pepsi. They dont actually feel more differentiation among these two brands according to the tastes. Buyers normally have what they get. They believe on WHAT COLD THEY SOLD Customers availability in brands is normally happens such as: Push availability Pull consumers demand. According to this reason Coca Cola have supplied their coolers freezers in to the market. Further have utmost number of freezers coolers in the market. They supply these infrastructures free of charge just to supply child coke to the customer that they want to be bought. The mechanics salesman often go all the shops to check infrastructure .If there is any problem change or repair it. http://htmlimg4.scribdassets.com/7lva67i2vf9rsu8/images/27-52c1d1da9f/000.jpg MAJOR COMPETITORS If consumers want to have soft drink they compete brands with each other. For instance compete Coke with Pepsi Sprite with 7up team. The Coca Cola Company thinks in a different way, they believe that new competitor AMRAT Cola, RC Cola, all the other juices, they take even water tea as their competitors. STRATEGIES OF QUALITY After macro micro analysis Brand Coca Cola is mainly role 1. Improve rivalry moments 2. When people do watch cricket 3. throughout commercialization 4. Enjoyable time Because of these strategies there can be better understanding better connection with the community. These are the main consumption. THREATS FROM COMPETITORS All of the Threats are well planned. The key threat is price. When the exact price whether comes down or goes higher thats effects the consumption of carbonated drink. For the reason that when the price goes higher consumers go for the substitute of coke such as Pepsi. when price goes down they think that there should be some thing wrong in that. In short that all depends on customers awareness. TARGETS THAT WOULD LIKE TO ATTAIN Survival of every organization is depending on profit. Thus Coke is also searching for a maximum of profit margin. We could identify three major ways to earn profits. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Over night profit à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Windfall profit à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Ethical and un-ethical ways Over Night Profits This is for the best brand for the year. This can be got increasing sales volume Windfall Profit They are the extras earnings. When the consumption is on boom. So, there are different types of profits. Ethical and Unethical Ways Profits can earn ethically or unethically. Company believes on this quote Every thing is fare in love and war. Further they can earn profit through diverse approaches. EXPANDING TARGET MARKET In last 2 years Coca Cola came back very aggressively. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Consumer has got choice à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Attractive brand name à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢Brand differentiating Consumer Has Got Choice Consumers know the name of other big brand, even though Coca Cola is the 2nd best name but it can get the best place after some period. Attractive Brand Name Now buyers know the Name of Coca Cola, since Coke is the name thats the populist after the word ok. Thus consumers can better differentiate brands with others. Brand Differentiation Now different brands are available in the market. Thus, consumers can differentiate between brands. The best players coke and Pepsi also have some different kinds of brand names either. Coca Colas Brand Coca Cola think about the togetherness, being people together and friends are being together. Coca Cola hardly believes that Pakistani temperament is us Pepsis Brand They use the temperament of me. In contrast to Coke they do believe on individual struggle. OPPORTUNITIES THREATS FOR PRICE Opportunities There are some taxes company must pay such as 20% excise duty 03% In making Budge 15% sales tax 27% goes to government Not only for taxes but for electricity chargers, distribution chargers, after paying all of those chargers the price of a coke can increase up consumer have to pay these as taxes. These are the opportunities through which we can increase the price and can get profits. The Coca Cola Company gets those as their opportunities to increase the margin of rates as well as for increases their profits Threats There are some threats in increasing prices of products. If for instance, Coke increases for 1 rupee. Then people definitely will not go for Coca Cola they transfer to Pepsi. So these are the threats when coke increases its prices of products. STRATEGIES OF GETTING GOALS HIGH PROFITS There are many ways That Coca Cola can increase its profits. Some key ways are as follows. à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ increasing volume à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢customers interest level à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¢ join with energetic festivals The way of increasing volume of consumers Coca Cola can increase the consumer volume by expanding the Coke industry. By using advertisements, attract people towards this product by offering very attractive interesting things. The way of increasing the interest level of consumers Increase the interest level of customers by using different flavors. For instance Coke is increasing the flavors in Fanta, through offering different flavors Coke can enhance the Level of customers these profits can be increased. The way of joining energetic festivals Coca cola is most of the time taking part in the festival such as Basant since during last 3 years. Coke erne high income consumption of Coke is increased on these occasions. In 2002 consumers were waiting that what interesting program Coke is going to present. Key Learnings from a Microeconomics Class for Mba Students
30. 11. 2012 Key learnings from Micro Economics module It was a very informative session and an eye opener. I was under the impression that economics only deals with fiscal and monetary policies. This was my first acquaintance with micro economics and it opened up a new perspective. I am in a position now to understand many events that happen every day around me. I am able to have a broad idea about how these events may have a direct or indirect impact on me as an individual (professionally as well as personally) and to an organisation.Detailed below are a few (but not all) significant points that were new to me : Law of Demand & Supply : The quantity demanded of a good falls when the price rises and the quantity supplied of a good rises when the price rises. Price of a good adjusts to bring the quantity supplied and demanded into balance. Other determinants of consumers demand include income, price of substitutes, expectations etc. Any change in these factors shifts the demand curve . Equilibrium : A situation where market price is at a level at which supply and demand quantity equals.Equilibrium of supply and demand maximizes the sum of consumer and producer surplus. Surplus : A situation in which supply is greater than demand Consumersââ¬â¢ surplus : Buyersââ¬â¢ willingness to pay for a good minus the amount the buyer actually pays for it. It measures benefit buyers gets by participating in a market. Producersââ¬â¢ surplus : The amount sellers receive for their goods minus their costs of production. It measures benefit sellers get from participating in a market. Dead Weight Loss : The fall in total surplus that results from a market distortion. Marginal Utility :Additional utility derived by consuming additional unit quantity of goods. Competitive markets : Prices in a perfectly competitive market always equal marginal cost of production. To maximise profit firms chooses output quantity such that marginal revenue equals marginal cost. A Monopolistica lly competitive market is characterized by attributes like many firms, differentiated products and free entry. Each firm in a monopolistically competitive market has excess capacity. There is standard deadweight loss of monopoly caused by the mark up of price over marginal cost. The product differentiation inherent in monopolistic competition leads to the use of advertising and brand names. Oligopoly is a market structure in which only a few sellers offer similar or identical products. Above concepts also clarified how Marginal cost, Sunk cost, Average Cost, Variable cost and Fixed cost help in determining sustainability of doing business and how they help in arriving at decisions like ââ¬Å"maximize profitâ⬠or ââ¬Å"continue to produce to cover costsâ⬠. Concepts of monopolistic and perfect competition along with examples covered in the class were apt for digesting the underlying principles. It also helped to understand how political/governmental interferences balances or imbalances the market forces and thus effecting the price and/or consumersââ¬â¢ and producersââ¬â¢ behaviour. Price Discrimination (PD) : Important concept on types of price discrimination used by various industries and businesses were interesting to know. I am a consumer of discriminated prices since birth however, never realized that I am a victim or beneficiary of the same. How business use it to their advantage. Concepts of types of PD and their application was an eye opener and gave me a new perspective to look at the market competition in a different way.Others : Prisonerââ¬â¢s Dilemma and Rivalry in Consumption, never heard off but fun to understand. How externalities (positive or negative) influence producers. Tragedy of common and enclosure movement were also unknown but not any longer. In conclusion : I have been thruââ¬â¢ above every day of my life but was never able to understand it the way I am able to do it now. Biggest surprise of all to me was that the u nderlying theme of all these is Microeconomics. And, I thought Economics is one field and was unaware of micro and macro.
